Thanks for encouraging me to write to the Committee Secretary, Phillip

I decided to keep it brief....

Here is my letter

Dear Committee Secretary,

Submission in-relation to

The Communications Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2024.

It is difficult to believe that in the 21st century this form of coercive control is still being contemplated when at the same time it is being voted as a crime when it comes to private domestic violence. To vote in this bill would be a form of public violence – violating our civil rights.

To have, in principle, a 'Ministry of Truth' determining what information is Mis- or Dis-information shows a complete lack of respect for the Australian people by the Australian Government and it is undemocratic!

It is the height of arrogance for a few people to decide on what the population can and cannot think and that they know better than others.

People with common sense rejoice in the richness and diversity of life and allow others to have different ideas. Being different is not wrong it is simply being different.

The government shows a complete lack of trust and love of humanity!

You will have received from others the legal reasons why this bill is unlawful so I won’t repeat them here.

More importantly let common sense prevail and vote down this bill.

Kind regards,

Jacqueline McLeod

THANK YOU so much, Dr Alman. I tried to send a submission yesterday through a “My Government” website and, after spending almost 2 hours trying to register, I could not get it through. I copied all the Senator email addresses you provided and sent an email, and I have received confirmation that 13 of the recipients received the email. I hope what I wrote is OK: it’s from the heart.

***

To the Committee Secretary and all Senators re Environment and Communications:

I am writing this submission in relation to the Communications Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation Bill 2024).

I am just an ordinary Australian citizen who values freedom of speech as much as I value truth. I read all information and have learned how to evaluate which is true and which is false. It is a valuable skill and I never, ever want someone else to do that for me. Censorship is a common thread running through all totalitarian governments.

The proposed amendment goes against human rights, freedom and democracy. It does not belong in Australia.

Respectfully yours...

Thank you for the information, Philip. Main stream media are useless. Here is my short letter:

To the Committee Secretary and all Senators re Environment and Communications:

Submission in-relation to

The Communications Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2024.

I was born in 1948 in Germany, first generation after WWII. From my parents and their contemporaries tales I learned about the censorship during the Nazi regime; everybody knows about the disastrous result.

It was about hundred years ago. Do we ever learn from history?

Does Australia want to go down the same path? You have good intentions; the early Nazis might have had good intentions as well.

Thanks for reminding me. My submission is at: https://www.firstpr.com.au/issues/

One of the options for the government publishing a submission is that this can be done with the submitter's name but not their name or other contact details. I chose this.

Some snippets from my submission and the previous one, last year, also at the page above:

Purported cure worse than the disease.

Even if the goals of the proposed Act were worthy and valuable, its implementation by multiple levels of indirect pressure would be counterproductive and at odds with the principles of good governance.

Disastrous impact on freedom of expression, ability to learn and evaluate information about anything at all, and on the trust in governments.

Even if we ignore the obvious objections concerning freedom of communication, any such government actions inevitably detracts from trust in governments and promotes an environment of innovation-stifling groupthink.

At every level of society – from individuals, through workplaces and friendship groups, to large public organisations, political parties and governments – Australia needs unencumbered, frank, creative, critical and genuinely free-wheeling communications in order that we can live and work well, and devise the best principles and policies for the nation.

Australia has no equivalent of the United States' First Amendment. Every country without this would do better to conduct its affairs as if this First Amendment applied in their country.

The temptation of governments to interfere with communications they do not favour is profound, universal and exceedingly pernicious.

Millions of people fought and died to protect Western civilisation from the censorious controls inherent in communist, fascist and other forms of totalitarian government.

The best way for individuals, companies, organisations, government departments and governments to tackle whatever they consider to be "misinformation" or "disinformation" is to:

* Provide evidence and arguments for their position, critiquing the supposedly mis- or dies-information and providing what they believe to be a correct account of all relevant matters.

That's it. There is only one dot point.

This requires no new legislation or expenditure.

Free Speech is Free Speech! There are and always will be cranks and idiots that try to create ridiculous notions, ideas, lies, rumours and propaganda, but we have always been able to disseminate trash from TRUTH. Humans are clever that way!

We all know the New World Order is struggling because there are too many of us with a brain, able to correct the ridiculous notions the NWO need to be accepted without question. Well, we ain't cooperating!

Free Speech will continue and we will continue to educate or reeducate those who have been misled by the NWO, those that seek to 'own and control' us.

Misinformation and/or disinformation is anything and everything the 'NWO' Establishment want to hide from those who might be a little slower than us. We have the ability to understand reality or their evil plans. It is our duty to continue to tell the truth and assist those with less confidence than us. Those who trust Governments and the likes of MSM and Big Pharma. In 2020, these mercenary bastards revealed themselves (along with their insane agenda) when they opened Pandora's Box with their Flagship Plan = Man-made Covid and the useless DEADLY deadly injections they call VACCINES!

The first clue was 'ZERO LIABILITY' for a deadly Experimental Injection. Who would be stupid enough to take such a chance? To be fair, Doctors avoided Informed Consent, making them complicit. No wonder 75% of the planet agreed to sample the DEATH SHOTS! Fortunately, half have realised the irony of the NWO Plan - seeing friends, relatives and neighbours die or become maimed by these deliberate depopulation injections. We must keep revealing the truth. Disinformation is THE TRUTH. Misinformation is the TRUTH! We will not pretend otherwise. Even if corrupt politicians try to silence us as directed by their 'Elite' controllers in the New World Order.

Unjabbed Mick (UK) Truth over enslavement! We will not be silenced from spreading the TRUTH!

So I'm confused: I have already submitted an objection to the "New ACMA Powers to Combat Misinformation and Disinformation" Bill back in July 2023. What is this new submission with deadline Sept'24? Could someone enlighten me please?

To make a submission, there is a button at the right of https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Environment_and_Communications/MisandDisinfobill "Upload Submission". This leads to some pages where it is necessary to create a "My Parliament" account, which involved giving your name, email address, home address and a phone number, and choosing a password. There may be a Captcha interrogation session such as the one in which I had to correctly identify photos which included images of traffic lights. The system sends an email with a link. Once that link is clicked, you can use the "Upload Submission" button again and upload a Word file, or a PDF.

I am not sure what other formats they accept. I wrote my submission in Microsoft Word (2003, updated, because the current versions bug me), but used the latest Word 365 to save it as a PDF, which it does very well, with clickable links. I sent them the PDF.

The PDF of the proposed legislation (Text of the bill, First reading) is at: https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_LEGislation/Bills_Search_Results/Result?bId=r7239 along with some other information, such as an explanatory memorandum and some speeches, none of which I looked at.

My question was not so much about the "how to submit", but the "why do I need to do another one of these when I already did one a year ago". Anyway, creating a "my parliament account" is the last thing I want to do. It says I can "Email your submission to:

Thanks, Phillip … I submitted a lengthy footnoted and annotated comment in August last year, so below is mu submission, it’s more a rant than anything, but glad I submitted anyway.

“Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth” – Albert Einstein

As I submitted comments to the original draft Misinformation Bill in August 2023, I will not repeat myself here. The fact that this Bill is still under consideration and will no doubt progress to Law regardless of all common sense, reason and logic to the contrary, means the words quoted above are very likely no longer applicable in this country, and that those who promulgate this disastrous and disingenuous monstrosity of a Bill know it. But they don’t care.

It's all a great big lie, isn’t it, this notion of “mis-and-disinformation”. Of “Online harms”. Where once liberal western democracies cherished the notions of the free exchange of ideas, vigorous debate, even vitriolic public argument, understanding that these were vital to the health and stability of a free society, now we believe in orchestrated top-down censorship, manipulation, propaganda, and control.

Politicians, media entities, academics, CEO’s, unelected affiliates, and others who consider themselves thought leaders beyond reproach have apparently determined that they, uniquely, hold the power to determine what is “true”, what is “correct”, what is “appropriate” and what is “safe”. The flow of information itself is to be stringently controlled and filtered, scripted and sanitised before being allowed to be disseminated to the public.

The aforementioned anointed “Experts” are of course to be kept safe from criticism, ring-fenced by “Fact-Checking” organisations, social media “guidelines” and other gatekeepers of the official narrative, conveniently not subject to the same scrutiny or held to the same standards as the average punter.

It is alarming to consider the consequences for our polity should censorious officials or unelected bureaucrats be allowed to legislate themselves ever more powers to compel dogmatic belief in certain narratives, promulgated under the guise of legislation purported to “combat misinformation”, especially when those same people have the power to define what is or isn’t “misinformation”. This is both dangerous and divisive, and sets up by design a two-tiered system whereby a tiny minority can determine what is True and what is False, what cannot be questioned.

But this isn’t about misinformation or Truth. It’s about Control, and Power. It’s about the complete failure of supposedly democratic institutions in this country, the fact that corruption, incompetence and willful indifference are now so blatantly manifest among the leadership classes that they really don’t care to pretend any longer that “democracy” is anything more than a pretext to be wheeled out every few years at the polls. Our politicians and senior unelected bureaucrats no longer serve the people of this country, they serve themselves. They pander to the meddling of special interest groups, globalist thinktanks, the WEF, the WHO, the IPCC. And they hate criticism. And they hate dissent.

No thanks. I reject this Bill for the disgrace that it is. I reject its origins at the UN and the WEF, and the hubris of its promoters in this country. I reject its false advertising, what it means for free speech and the honest debate of ideas in this country as our erstwhile leaders steer us myopically towards authoritarianism.

Cast it into the fire.”

I like your rant. Thanks for sharing. You are right: if we hadn't seen the full-on totalitarianism of the last few years we might have given them the benefit of a doubt that they were "well-meaning NannyStaters", but they've blown their cover completely. This "call for submissions" is just a tick-box exercise to sniff the wind and decide how much they can get away with without waking up too many of the sleepers.

100% agree. When I heard that 20,000 responses had been received from the public last year I originally had some hope that this travesty would be shelved, but of course it won’t because the whole world is directed to do so. This all started at the UN through its “Our Common Agenda” policy, and was pushed to prominence by the WEF’s “Global Coalition for Digital Safety” (of which eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant is a senior member), so it’s a fait accompli that we’ll be subjected to this tyranny one way or the other … the way I see things, I’d rather just tell them to shove it in writing regardless, I no longer subscribe to their depraved lust for power and control.

Dr Altman, I did my best and hope that it helps 🙏🥹

Dear Committee Secretary,

I'm writing this submission in-relation to the Communications Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2024.

I am submitting my objection to the proposed Communication Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2024. This bill is incredibly dangerous but also a massive overreach by the Australian Government to have in principle a 'Ministry of Truth' determining what information is Mis or Disinformation.

It has been my experience in the last 4 years that the Government, Mainstream Media (MSM) and public health services have been the most prolific peddlers of misinformation, mistreatment, disinformation and discrimination against the Australian people.

As a midwife of 40 years of public service to the Australian people and without a blemish to my name I have always advocated for informed choice, freedom of speech, personal responsibility and self determination. The divine creator gave us all free will to choose for ourselves what is right and true, it's high time the government honoured the creators' will and minded their own business. In essence get out of God's lane.

Civil rights are an essential component of our democracy, and this fundamental issue will compromise legitimate political speech which the government in essence cannot agree to.

As Senator Michaelia Cash states ‘this new version of the Albanese Government’s Bill, the Minister is able to personally order misinformation investigations and misinformation hearings. These are extraordinary provisions in a democracy.’

Senator Cash asserts: ‘If you're an academic, something you say can't be misinformation. BUT if you're an ordinary Australian who disagrees with an academic, it can be misinformation. Under the Bill, the honestly held opinions of ordinary Australians can be treated as ‘misinformation’.’

Civil Rights are guarantees of equal social opportunities and protection under the law, regardless of race, religion, or other characteristics of which; the rights to vote, to a fair trial (Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 11) and the Presumption of Innocence link, to government services, and to a public education are included. Universal Declaration of Human Rights Articles 5 & 6.

Who is the Government to tell me what is factually true or false?! They have proven to me over the last 4 yrs that they cannot be trusted on any level. They mandated a bioweapon and called it a vaccine. As far as I am concerned they are domestic terrorists who should be prosecuted as such, these are serious crimes against humanity and the Nuremberg trials need to begin in earnest.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 1 states I have 'reason & conscience'.

The Government lied to us about; the safety and efficacy of COVID "vaccines" (Who-said-the-covid-19-vaccines-were safe? 21/09/24), they lied about listening to us at the referendum regarding the Voice, and they're still lying to us when they tell us they're here to “protect us”!!

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Articles 9 &10.

The Government effectively is continuing to spread misinformation, but why should the government be the arbiter that determines what is truthful and what is false?!

How does this make any sense regarding my Human Rights, except to usurp by God given rights to follow my own conscience on matters of morality, and for that matter the moral beliefs and practices of our Judeo-Christian culture in Australia?!

I can never vote for a government that would vote for this, to essentially be the 'Thought Police of the Internet', it is absolutely dangerous (Cite George Orwell’s book 1984)! Furthermore, how can the Government call the media 'Professional' then make them exempt from this bill when it's they who have knowingly pushed the lies on behalf of the Government in the past!

No-one should have the ability to determine what is 'mis/disinformation', that's up to the individual to determine what they believe to be true under our democracy and Constitution, which can only be altered by a Referendum!

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 2 states I can have 'other opinion'

Not the Government!

This is all a part of Free Speech. Every time the Government says they're 'trying to protect us', nobody voted for this, nobody asked for this, so this is another outright lie! Therefore, it's the Government that is spreading Misinformation!

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 8 Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 11 Section 1.

Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence.

I ask you, Committee Secretary, to do the right thing and stand up for Freedom of Speech & Expression and vote down this bill!

This bill does NOTHING to restore public confidence between the Government and The People, if anything this further degrades that trust.

If the Government chooses to do something to restore trust amongst the people; they can stop attacking our Liberties, and they can let us live our lives accordingly instead of interfering in them, plus they could uphold Australians’ rightful Freedom of Speech, protected by law.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights cite Articles 7, 8 & 11 Section 1.

Last but not least our public servants can stop pandering to and selling us all out to the likes of WHO, WEF, UN, who are all behaving worse than criminal drug cartels. We the Australian people are awake, aware, and ready for action against these corrupt evil politicians who claim to be serving the people. It’s time the government stopped insulting our intelligence and lived up to our, the Australian peoples expectations. A royal commission into Covid was an election promise by the ALP who have done everything in their power to stop it. This alone tells us who the liars are and how they cannot be trusted.

When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”― George R.R. Martin

Do the right and lawful thing!
